Pretty One 05:10
Come With Me (My Pretty One) Come with me my pretty one And tell me what you’ve seen. I have travelled many miles, Through many worlds I’ve been. Listen to the silent night And hear the song it sings. Whispering the hopes and joys Of what tomorrow brings. O walk with me my soft, fair one And lead me to your gate The stars will soon give way to dawn The Sun is never late. Of all the precious jewels on earth There’s none as sweet as youth That every blossom blooms and falls Could be the only truth. O sing to me my turtle dove The tale of all your past Soothe this ravished heart of mine That beats so true and fast It seems a thousand years have come Since I first saw your face A memory which eternity Could not ever erase...

Sacred Heart Blues I just walked through that door, I don’t understand no more It feels sometimes like I might just go under. Staying out all night, searching for the light Of the heart of a woman who can tear my bonds asunder. I feels like she might be near, but I don’t know if she’s here Or if she’s living in the dark of a fools imagination. I’m walkin’ on the street, the shaking ground below my feet, Trying to lose the weight of having too much information. Well the wood’s begun to crack and the law is at my back The only safe haven is a hundred miles up the river. But right now it’s a bit too far and I can see that morning star Trying to tell me of the message I’m here to deliver. I can feel her hand in mine, I can taste her sweet red wine But I know she won’t be waiting when I finally get home to bed. My house’ll be empty like a tomb, with ghosts in every room And an obscured vision of her face inside my head. I used to feel so blessed but it’s hard to be impressed With myself after straying from the trail I tried to follow. It took me through the Temple gates and around some tragic fates But the small victories along the way kind of feel a bit hollow. I’ve been reaching out for her with a heart so clean and pure. Maybe she’s afraid or else she can’t hear what I’m sayin'. I guess I’ll just have to wait and try to stand up straight And learn a bit more about the god to whom she’s prayin'.

Do It For Me (I’ll Do It All For You) It’s hard to say what’s on the tip of my tongue, it gets tangled in dream like a harp gets unstrung. Ain’t gonna lose you no never it’s true Just let me know darlin' what he means to you. I need you baby to help me get through, do it for me, I’ll do it all for you... This story’s a tale that ain’t never been told full of sorrow and happiness silver and gold. I been high on the hog I’ve been forsaken too somewhere in between’s where it all became true. Love’s wild flower, come the rain it just grew do it for me, I’ll do it all for you.... Long is the road and deep is the night where the shadows appear in the evening light. We’ve been through the Valley and we stood on the Mount we’ve got one chance left baby, let’s make it count. All of these memories so precious, so new, do it for me, I’ll do it all for you Rivers that wind and a Wind that blows free through the pages of time where all souls can see. I can’t say for sure that I’ve been here before, but I can hear the knockin’ of the wolf at the door. Seal up my heart, put it in your canoe Do it for me, I’ll do it all for you...

(I Ain’t No) Stranger What am I gonna do, with this love I got for you? Put it in an old suitcase and take it to some other place. What am I gonna say if they ever let me have my way? They’ll never believe it’s true they don’t know the first thing about you. O I ain’t no stranger Come take me home What am I supposed to think? Guess I’ll pour myself another drink. Walk out in the early morning rain thoughts of you, a rollin’ through my brain What am I supposed to be? In this World where no one’s really free. Pound another nail into the wood believe me I’d be with you if I could. O I ain’t no stranger Come take me home I saw you on the street, broken glass and ashes at your feet I don’t know if you saw me a passing by but I know I saw that tear fall from your eye. I saw you standin' in the light your hair a fallin' on your dress so white I saw you walkin' out the door and things just ain’t the same for me no more. O I ain’t no stranger Come take me home

Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame (Chinaski's Blues) I'm burning in water, drowning in flame My heart it beats faster, at the sound of your name. The bottle is full again of nothing, it seems and I'm back to the lonely dark night of my dreams. The riddle that haunts me, each night and each day Is how to turn off that feelin' that won't go way. I hear that song playin' about love's foolish game, I'm burning in Water, drowning in Flame. Well nothing is simple but it's easy if you know the soil that you're turning and the seeds that you sow. The road that is waiting in the shimmering light will surely still be there at the end of the night. But the memory of some place I left round the bend, keeps rolling me backwards to an uncertain end. It makes me feel tragic but there's no one to blame, I'm burning in Water, drowning in Flame. To be gifted with Vision but blinded by Truth with the old sword of Patience and the thin shield of Youth. The Time that is lost and the Hope that is won, by the light of the Moon and the dark of the Sun. The River keeps turning and the Mountain still stands, both Wise men and Wicked hold the World in their hands. It's so hard to be proud, in the face of this shame, I'm burning in Water, drowning in Flame.

Only Just Begun End of the road, end of the line end of everything I thought was mine. End of the story of sadness and laughter Time to get down to the happy ever after I've been run around in circles under the ancient sun, Feels like the end of something, but its only just begun. Hit the highway, hit the streets, hit the ball right into the seats. Hit the nail, right on the head Walk into the land of the living dead. I feel just like a rabbit, all I want to do is run... Feels like the end of something, but it's only just begun. Seize the day, seize control, Seize the tiller of the soul Seize the moment, make it shine. Beat the drum and drink the wine. There's plenty good money to be made, vast riches to be won. Feels like the end of something, but it's only just begun. Bless the child, bless the name, bless the darkness of my shame. Bless her heart for being true without her I'd never make it through. Been lookin' down a road where all my dreams have come undone. Feels like the end of something, but it's only just begun.

Sweetheart of the Wasteland Coca-cola sunshine, I guess some things never change From where I stay the view is good but it sure seems kind of strange. Smoking guns and desperate men they play for keeps it’s true But I’ll ride out of this one horse town if it’s for the love of you It’s another Canaan morning and the Philistines are quiet Be thankful for a moments peace, these days fools can’t even buy it. Who are they to pull these chains unto the quiet earth? The land will bust these chains and the hills shall sing rebirth. I look out over valleys wide with mountains in my hand. I’m looking out for you my love, the Sweetheart of the Wasteland. Sometimes days are easy, with no need to wag the tongue With ages melting into hours and prayers that are sung But the nights they can get fiery and the metaphors they fall. From some place where the shepherds sleep & the bullets hit the wall. I was standing on the avenue with silk upon my back Trying to find a way on through the blues in the night so black I saw you and my friend Lincoln, walking up to call the tune. Except it wasn’t early one morning, it was way past afternoon. Now I’m standing on the water where the waves roll on the sand I see a ship I think of you, the Sweetheart of the Wasteland. The painter cracks the canvas code and the rabbit’s in the hat. The people cry for Mercy but it’s old Casey at the bat. The silver threads and the golden silks, they flutter in the breeze. The feathers fall unto the dust while I wait here on my knees. And in you come a dancing, like a seagull over waves, Gently treading over all the loved ones in their graves. The comet in the Eastern sky that brings with it the spring Just point your finger to it babe, it’ll be your wedding ring. I’ve been waiting in the wilderness for the time to take my stand. God knows, I sure need you here, the Sweetheart of the Wasteland. Proportions and perspectives, they are rising like the sun Was it me who said that day that all roads shall lead to one? Babes in arms and blind men they go strolling down the trail While the engines roar with flaming breath from the petrol holy grail. O who has made these roads so long and who upon them rides? While over hill and under clouds the sacred sparrow glides. I wait with expectation of some brilliant shining day When the sound is trumpets blasting and all this is laid away. And you who ride on diamond wheels with fate at your command Will you come and save me now, Sweetheart of the Wasteland.

Tough Town Blues It's a tough town, it gets tougher every day It's a tough town, it gets tougher every day Got to keep the wheels a rollin' You know there ain't no other way It's a tough town, better keep your head on straight It's a tough town, better keep your head on straight Get on down the road somehow Don't you make your baby wait The sky is cryin', you know it's cryin' all the time The sky is cryin', you know it's cryin' all the time Sometimes I wish that river Flowed with ruby wine You can try so hard, but you can't get a break You can try so hard, but you can't get a break You know money rules this city like a big ol' rattlesnake It's a tough town, better find yourself a friend It's a tough town, better find yourself a friend Better hope she'll be a waitin' when you pull around the bend It's a tough town, better open up your eyes It's a tough town, better open up your eyes Y'know time is like a pretty bird, won't be long before she flies...

Tryin’ To Resist I'm tryin' to resist the pull of gravity. I'm strugglin' in this war tryin' to stay free. It feels like it been lost and won won and lost again. I know that victory shall come, but only God knows when. I know that victory shall come, but only God knows when. I'm tryin' to resist the chains of slavery Someone's got to stand up and show some bravery. Everything is slidin' down, into some great abyss. It's so hard to understand how it could ever come to this. It's so hard to understand how it could ever come to this. I'm tryin' to resist the tragic fate of Man. Got to carry such a burden but I don't know if I can. Money always rules the day and knows just where I live. I'm tryin' to resist, but something's got to give. Yeah, I'm tryin' to resist but something's got to give.

Where Are You? Golden leaves are layin’ in the gutter, winds are shifting as the seasons change. Summer fades to black like some old movie, that everybody thought was kind of strange. I just don’t feel like hangin’ out all night again, singin’ on the stage of no return. They don’t want to see my Heart of Darkness they don’t want to watch me crash and burn. Where are you, as this night comes apart at the seams? Where are you, as the darkness gives way to the dawn? Where are you, are you waiting for me in my dreams? O baby it’s hard not to notice that you’re gone... Everything that I thought I knew of love is useless now that you rewrote the script. Forever is too far away, tomorrow never comes and it seems to be the past that has me stripped. Maybe you left paradise behind you, and maybe I won’t reach the promised land. But somewhere in the middle, of this Flood of fear and flame there has to be some place where we can stand. Where are you, in this City that knows no regret? Where are you, as the shades are so carefully drawn? Where are you, is this something that you could forget? O baby it’s hard not to notice that you’re gone... I pinned my hopes on you it ain’t no secret I never saw much harm in reaching out. You touched me in a place where it was needed, with a truth beyond a shadow of a doubt. Now I’m standing on the hill of foolish memory, where justice never seems to fit the crime. They say peace don’t come to those who most deserve it, is it even possible to find it in our time? Where are you, as my Heart fills with light from the Moon? Where are you, as this good Earth gets trampled upon Where are you, I think that maybe you gave up too soon O baby it’s hard not to notice that you’re gone...
